BCBF Online Special Edition (4 - 7 May 2020) welcomed The Illustrators Survival Corner with a new digital format: a 24 hour portfolio review session connecting the community of illustrators around the world.
24 International reviewers, including illustrators, art directors and agents, were online in video-conference to assess the portfolios of some 240 Illustrators and provide useful professional advice.
The 24h Marathon took place entirely in video call. It started at 00.00 (UTC +1, Italian time) in New Zealand, continuing across the globe following the successive time zones: Australia, Japan, Korea, China, Taiwan, India, Iran, and Russia - to then pass to the European time zone. The first country was Greece, followed by Italy, Germany, the United Kingdom, France and Spain. At 5 PM the marathon crossed the Atlantic Ocean to land in the Americas: first on the US east coast, Brazil, Colombia, Mexico and, finally, San Francisco, where the marathon ended, after 24 hours, at 11.59 PM (UTC +1, Italian time).
Each reviewer was online for an hour to examine the portfolios of 10 illustrators who had previously signed up. A total of 240 portfolios were examined during the marathon.
The 24h Marathon is a Bologna Children’s Book Fair project curated by The Illustrators Survival Corner - Mimaster Illustrazione.
