Regulations

ART. 1
On the occasion of the 2010 Bologna Children’s Book Fair, BolognaFiere will confer the BolognaRagazzi FICTION, NON FICTION, NEW HORIZONS, and OPERA PRIMA Awards. To this regard, the BolognaRagazzi FICTION Award shall be given to a work of fiction, stories or illustrated fairy tales.
The NON FICTION section is dedicated to informational literature in any area of knowledge, science, history, art, music, biography and current events that contributes to a child’s learning experience.
The NEW HORIZONS Award is designed to acknowledge publishing houses from the Arab countries, Latin America, Asia and Africa that show great innovative talent.
The “OPERA PRIMA” section is reserved for works by authors or illustrators being published for the first time. The award is given for excellence of research and implementation of an innovative publishing product.An International Jury shall select the most deserving works in the above-mentioned categories as the winners.
The International Jury shall select the winners on the basis of graphic quality, artistic and technical excellence and informational value, with particular reference to overall publishing excellence. In any event, the decisions of the International Jury shall be final.

ART. 2
Participation in the BolognaRagazzi Award competition is free and strictly reserved for accredited Exhibitors, i.e. publishing houses that have already applied to the 2010 Bologna Children’s Book Fair. Any books submitted by publishers not exhibiting at the 2010 Bologna Children’s Book Fair shall not be accepted for the competition, nor can they be returned to the sender.

ART. 3
Publishers may enter one or more works in the Fiction and Non Fiction Sections provided all entries are the original edition published for the first time in the period 1st January 2008 – 31st January 2010

Publishers may enter one or more works in the “Opera Prima” Section provided all entries are the original edition published for the first time in the period 1st January 2009 – 31st January 2010.

Publishers may enter one or more works in the New Horizons Section provided all entries are the original edition published for the first time in the period 1st January 2007 – 31st January 2010.

ART. 4
The Application Form must be completed in full and sent with 4 copies of each book, reaching the following address no later than 29th January 2010:

All titles must be received by the BolognaRagazzi Award Secretariat carriage paid.
All titles coming from outside the European Union must be sent with prepayment of all customs clearance and delivery costs (carriage paid to domicile cleared through customs).
In any event to the contrary, BolognaFiere shall arrange for customs clearance and charge all allied expenses to the Publisher.
Please note that the books received have no commercial value for BolognaFiere.
Books shall be accepted for selection only if accompanied by a completed Application Form.
Furthermore, BolognaFiere declines all responsibility in the event of non-delivery or late arrival of the titles submitted.
Books received cannot be returned to sender or any other address.

ART. 5
All titles shall be submitted to the final decision of an International Jury, which shall be made up of publishing sector experts including graphic designers.
The Jury reserves the right to transfer works from one section to another, if deemed necessary.
The titles entered and received free of charge shall under no circumstances be returned but shall be included in itinerant promotional exhibitions outside Italy.

ART. 6
The Publisher shall remain the exclusive owner of its titles but accords BolognaFiere the non exclusive right:

  • to reproduce the titles entered and accepted on posters, flyers and other printed matter pertaining to the “Bologna Children’s Book Fair” as well as on any other kind of support (CD-ROM, CD-I, systems on-line);
  • to use in any form, even separately, with the faculty to cede this right to third parties of its choice, reproductions of the titles submitted and accepted in the catalogue as well as reproduce said material in other publications pertaining to the “Bologna Children’s Book Fair”, conditional upon mention of the author(s) and the publisher(s) of the work in question.

BolognaFiere furthermore shall have the right to reproduce, also in part, the works submitted and accepted.
BolognaFiere accepts no liability for eventual errors and omissions.
Publishers shall forego all claims for compensation regarding the reproduction, publication and use by BolognaFiere within the context of the “Bologna Children’s Book Fair” of their works in whatever form or on whatever material, since any activity in this regard is exclusively intended to promote the publications in question and publicise the “Bologna Children’s Book Fair” and the above-mentioned Awards listed in the Competition Call for Entries.

ART. 7
The Prize shall be awarded to the Publisher whose title and specific edition is declared the winner. In the event of a joint publication, the Prize shall be awarded jointly to the co-publishers concerned and shall be presented to the Publisher who submitted the application first.
For the purposes of the competition, only those titles expressly indicated as co-publications on the cover and/or first page shall be regarded as such.
No ex-aequo prizes shall be awarded.
